Some Young Adult YouTuber suggested ‘The Kiss of Deception‘ as one of the books with a mind-blowing plot-twist. I usually don’t read princess stories because I don’t like the way they portray the women in these kind of novels. Why does a princess have to be so delicate? Why is she always waiting for her prince charming? Why is her sole purpose to only get married in life? But The Remnant Chronicles does break the stereotypes and takes you to a world of kingdoms and magic. It got my attention and I started reading it. Well, at that time, I did not know that this book was the first one of the series.
Although, this is a fantasy series, the protagonist in the story, our princess Lia, is no damsel-in-distress, for which I thank the author. She is beautiful but strong, kind but fierce. Her father wants her to marry a Prince for lucrative political gains, but she runs away on the day of her wedding, because this is not the life she dreams of living. Lia loves her freedom and wants to live a life of simplicity. Little does she know, that the prince who was left at the altar, is coming after her. And so is an assassin, whose motive is to kill her. But which one is the assassin and who is the prince?
This is the basic plot of the story and it’s quite fascinating. The story kept me occupied and I wasn’t bored a bit. The language in the book is simple but engaging. I especially liked the narrative from every character’s view. And to be honest, I really liked the assassin. The second and third books reveal enthralling mysteries. Lia seems to find herself in a world she never even dreamt of.
What’s more? This one is a light-read! If you are in a mood to stroll through pages while enjoying a simple story-line, I say, look no further.
The only disappointing thing about the book is… well, the end was sort of forced by the author just so everyone has a happy ending. Maybe that’s what princess stories are about, after all!
This isn’t one of the best books I have read, but it’s not the worst either. Looking for a light-read? A fantasy novel? Pick this one up!
