The One – John Marrs

Over the past few months, I kept collecting books on Kindle and didn’t read a single page. Well, I tried to, but it was getting harder and harder to stick to a routine. Whether it was my hectic work life, pure boredom or just lack of dedication, I would never know.

I was in search for a book that just hooks me, thrills me and consumes me. It should be difficult to stop reading. It should be an all-nighter read. After understanding all my expectations to bring me back from my non-reading hibernation mode and researching like a crazy person, I stumbled upon The One! Let me just say this, I could NOT stop reading!

How far would you go to find The One?

A world in which a simple DNA test is all it takes to find your perfect partner, the one who you are genetically made for! The story revolves around five couples, from different walks of life, who have just received a notification that their perfect partner is only a click away! Oh and one of the characters is a serial killer!

With so many characters and twists at each turn of the page, this was my fastest read in a while! Each chapter ends in a cliffhanger. Word of advice: Don’t start reading this book just before going to bed, cuz it wont’ allow you to sleep. Its a page-turner and a very well-written one at that.

Although, the book is fast and the writer does not touch all the characters in depth (which I am used to), we do get an idea about what each of them goes through in life. We can feel their pain, anxiety and anger. But the book also makes you think about a world where technology overpowers love and instinct.

I loved the ending, it was logical and made complete sense to me. Please read this book if you like fast and furious. Happy reading! 🙂

Favorite Quotes from the book:

“Sometimes, the grass is not greener on the other side, and we should stay in the field where we belong. And sometimes we just need to take a gamble and hope for the best.”

“I also wanted to demonstrate how greedy we are as human beings. How willing we are to give up everything and anyone we hold dear on the suggestion there might be something better around the corner.”

“Of course. It’s ingrained in everyone, isn’t it? Everyone wants to cheat, but it’s whether you’ve got a good enough reason to do it.”
